Sit-to-stand

Steps

  1. Set up safely

Place a stable chair without wheels on a non-slip surface. Sit near the front edge and place both feet securely on the floor.

  2. Lean slightly forward

Lean your upper body slightly forwards before beginning to stand.

  3. Stand up steadily

Slowly straighten into standing through your legs. Use suitable support if needed.

  4. Sit down with control

Move your hips back and lower yourself with control until seated. Do not drop onto the chair.

What to notice: Notice a steady movement: keep knees and feet in a comfortable alignment. Do not bounce up or drop onto the chair.

Variants

  • Stand only as high as feels secure; use hands lightly for guidance if needed.

Equipment

  • No equipment; stable chair

Safety notes

  • Stay within a pain-free, controllable range. Stop for pain or discomfort; seek individual medical advice first if you have symptoms, an injury or uncertainty.
