Two components
Resting expenditure describes energy used at rest. Daily movement and other processes increase total expenditure. An activity multiplier (PAL) creates a rough scenario; actual activity varies.
Reading the calculator
Compare two plausible activity levels instead of treating one calorie figure as exact. The Mifflin equation was studied in healthy adults. Our tool adds narrower limits of ages 19–64, a restricted size/weight range and BMI from 18.5 to below 30; these are cautious product limits, not the full study population.
Context
No automatic weight-loss prescription. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, illness, competitive sport and unusually high muscle mass require different interpretation. The two original study coefficients do not represent every body. Inputs stay in the browser and are not saved.
